The Independent Living Program is the post-transitional-housing stage of SPF's continuum — stable housing plus structured coaching toward full self-sufficiency. Residents work with case managers on employment stability, financial literacy, lease-up, transportation, and benefits cliff navigation.
The program is currently in operation — 11 residents placed at the existing site today — and is the subject of an active Matthew 25 expansion pipeline that will scale the campus to 31 units. Stated program math, eligibility cohort, and intake flow reflected on this page match the operational figures locked into that pipeline.
Eligibility
The independent-living cohort is defined by demonstrated readiness toward lease-up and self-sufficiency. Eligibility is determined at referral — not all applicants are accepted, and placement depends on current unit availability.
Internal promotion from SPF's Transitional Housing Program, or equivalent completion of a partner residential program, with documented case-plan progress.
Demonstrated employment, vocational training enrollment, or verifiable income trajectory consistent with lease-up within 6–12 months.
Active budgeting, lease-readiness, and life-skills work alongside the assigned case manager, with weekly check-in attendance.
Maintained sobriety and a clean housing record throughout the prior transitional-housing placement, with no recent program violations.
Emergency independent-living placements are accepted for high-acuity transitions — partner agencies with an urgent situation should contact us directly rather than submit through the standard referral form.
Intake Flow
Once a referral is received, the program's intake coordinator moves through a structured flow with target turnaround times at each stage.
Internal promotion from SPF's Transitional Housing Program, or partner-agency referral with readiness documentation.
Within 24 hours the intake coordinator reviews the referral against unit availability and population fit, with a confirmation to the referrer.
Independent Living Readiness milestones review — budgeting, lease-readiness, employment trajectory — assessed against the program's case-management standards.
Placement into an independent-living unit with structured coaching check-ins, employment supports, and a clear lease-up pathway.
